Sodium Lactate is a sodium salt of lactic acid and is part of a large family of compounds collectively known as Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF). NMFs are a naturally occurring group of compounds that help regulate the moisture level in the skin.

Due to its acidic nature, Sodium Lactate can also be used to balance the pH of products and in doing so maintain a product's efficacy and stability.

Ambo uses Sodium Lactate as a humectant in its Facial Cleanser.
